How to Use Previous Year Questions (PYQs) for BPSC Prelims
Why PYQs come first
Previous-year papers are the closest thing to the real syllabus in action. They tell you which subjects are weighted heavily, how factual or conceptual the questions are, and how options are framed.
Step 1 — Tag every question
Instead of solving paper by paper, group questions by subject: Bihar special, polity, history, geography, economy, science and environment. After a few papers you will see topics that appear again and again.
Step 2 — Learn the pattern, not just the answer
- Why were the wrong options wrong?
- Is the question factual, conceptual or current-affairs based?
- Which one line in your notes would have answered it?
Step 3 — Practice against the clock
Take a paper in one sitting with a timer. Track your accuracy and the questions you skipped. Improve accuracy first, then speed.
Step 4 — Keep an error log
Maintain a simple notebook with three columns: question, correct answer, reason you missed it. Revise this log before every mock test — it is your personal syllabus.
Bihar-specific preparation
For BPSC, give dedicated time to Bihar history, geography, economy and current affairs. These are the sections where local preparation separates candidates.
